In this Psychotherapy Masterclass, Sex & Trauma Psychotherapist, Neha Bhat will facilitate learning around projections as defense-mechanisms that keep us stuck from making actual change in our romantic/intimate life.
How often have you experienced :
- creating sandcastles in the air, only to realize you’re repeating old patterns?
- promising yourself “you’ll catch the red flags sooner” but you find yourself in an emotionally unavailable relationship all over again?
- Chances are, your psychological hidden defense mechanisms are at-play, stopping you from seeing your own part in these patterns.
Based on the content of this workshop, attendees will be able to:
- Name and explain the psychological phenomenon of projection as a defense mechanism and how it shows up in romance, using the work of Dr. Joseph Burgo.
- Identify the ways in which these mechanism cause self-harm and can lead to repeated trauma patterns.
- Facilitate meaning-making with other aligned enthuasiasts as a cohort and help melt this defense mechanism further.
“One of the ways that people avoid taking responsibility for their role in their own pain is what I call the BPs – blame and projection.” — Iyanla Vanzant
About Neha:
Neha is a depth-focused sex and trauma therapist who brings in creative practices in her method of psychotherapy and has now completed 12+ years of clinical practice. In her clinical journey, finding culturally-sensitive, spiritually-attuned mentors and guides were a professional challenge as she navigated a largely EuroAmerican-dominant landscape of psychotherapy in the US and a highly pathologized mental health professional landscape in India. In this workshop series, especially designed for Indian therapists or therapists who work with Indian clients, she invites us to work together to deepen our clinical skills and make sense of psychotherapy concepts in culturally-sensitive practice.
