You are not supposed to love your therapist

❤️ A good therapist is not always “likeable”. A good therapist is rare these days. A good therapist requires years not just months of advanced training, and lifelong learning.

A good therapist is one that knows they are not the centre of your life.

A good therapist is one who doesn’t mother or father you through transformation.

A good therapist is one who can recieve your projections and redirect them back to you.

A good therapist is rare these days.

You are not meant to fall in love with your therapist; rather, therapy is a space where, with their support, you learn to love yourself and others more deeply.

A therapist is like a boat—helpful, necessary even—but not a permanent home; the purpose of getting on is to cross the river. For some, that crossing may take months through choppy waters, while for others it may take years to move through something more turbulent. Eventually, many realize that rivers lead to vast oceans, where one must learn to swim on their own. There is no shame in the pace or the path—every soul is on its own unique journey.
